Kisstadion

The stadium situated in the territory of the Olympic Centre of Budapest has been one of the most well-known venue of sport and cultural events in the past 50 years. National and international competitions, as well as concerts featuring world famous performers were hosted in the Kisstadion already. From November until March the arena is occupied by the hockey players.

Directions

The Kisstadion is located in district XIV, on the grounds of the Budapest Olympic Centre. It is accessible by car on Istvánmezei street from the direction of Thököly street. Parking is available in front of the stadium.

The entrance is a 2-3 minute walk from the Dózsa György street station of the BKV bus No 7.

Professional Sport

The Kisstadion is used by the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation. The winter season usually lasts from mid November until the first week of March. Weekday mornings the stadium is occupied by pupils learning to skate, and in the afternoons clubs hold their ice hockey trainings here. There are mainly youth team matches played on the weekends.

Amateur Sport

The Kisstadion is not available for classic public skating, but nonprofessional hockey teams are allowed to rent the ice rink. Many companies and friendly circles take advantage of this option.

  • The construction of the Kisstadion started in 1959.
  • The stadium hosted the 1962 World Weightlifting Championship where Győző Veres won the gold medal.
  • The last outdoor European Figure Skating Championship was organized here in 1963, but the heavy snowing disturbed the contests.
